Vulnerabilities and Opportunities in OT Infrastructures
Operational Technology (OT) infrastructures face unique cybersecurity challenges due to the presence of legacy equipment and a lack of security-focused design. These systems commonly feature outdated firmware, insecure communication, and lack of encryption, making them vulnerable to attacks that can cause disruptions and physical damage. The increasing convergence between IT and OT systems further increases risks, requiring robust measures such as network segmentation and continuous monitoring to mitigate these threats.
On the other hand, the adoption of open source software (OSS) in OT operations presents numerous opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements. Platforms such as Apache Kafka, Node-RED and InfluxDB enable real-time data integration, rapid development of IoT solutions and efficient analysis of industrial data. These tools, along with security solutions like OpenSCAP, help manufacturers build flexible, scalable, and secure OT environments.
